West Plains MO | Promoting a Business in The Ozarks

West Plains MoPromoting Business in West Plains MO

This short article is the first of a series of posts focusing on promoting and stimulating the economy in the West Plains Mo area.   At the same time this post also provides some informational background on the contents of OzSBI’s upcoming March 18, 2014 workshop on content marketing.

Keys to Economic Stimulation

One key to stimulating the economy of any area is to encourage an inflow of cash into that area from economically healthy areas.  That’s true for an entire country, or for the smallest municipalities.

The United States encourage exports, which in turn result in an inflow of cash which originated in the economies of other countries.  This creates a flow of cash which otherwise would not have existed on its own domestically.  Areas as small as West Plains and Howell County are not an exception to that principle of cash flow and economic growth.

Historically recognized as a relatively low income area, the standard of living in The Ozarks has in fact been gradually rising in recent years as more local residents have learned to generate higher income levels, many of them arising from doing more business with outside areas.

Local residents accomplish this by either working at home for themselves, or by working for larger companies.  In either case, when emphasis is placed on selling products or services to outside areas, the result is an increase of resources and cash flow into our area.  That cash then circulates around and ultimately benefits locals by changing hands and  being here to be spent!

Local Content Marketing Promotes and Encourages Cash Flow into West Plains

Content marketing concepts encourage and enable business owners to learn to draw from a broader range of customer base, much of it being outside of their traditional geographical area.  How is that growing external customer base found?

A growing customer base is created by establishing a  more effective present online!

The bottom line result of increased cash flow for any business is an increase in its revenue. More revenue benefits not just that company and its employees.   In the long run and in the big economic picture, everyone and every other business in the community benefit from that increased presence of cash.

How does doing business online stimulate a lower standard local economy?west plains mo

Businesses in previously depressed economic regions are acting as catalysts to the stimulation of  the local economies by focusing their marketing efforts in an online direction. The most effective ways of marketing a business online are represented by the art and science of content marketing.

Effectively implemented content marketing causes more cash to flow in from outside of the area.  It then naturally changes hands inside the area, thereby benefiting not only business owners, but its employees, and ultimately the community at large.

An Increased Standard of Life in West Plains

Like changes in atmospheric pressure pressure adjust naturally. similarly, economic voids are also naturally filled and adjusted.  Our local economy can continue to grow by leaps and bounds when effectively stimulated  by efficient and forward thinking  uses of internet marketing!

Even the most locally oriented businesses reap the benefits of economic growth stimulated from the outside.  As a result of in increase in the presence of cash in the community created by those doing more business with outside areas, their own business  revenue will also also necessarily and naturally increase.  Why?  More money is being spent in the community.  That improvement in the business climate ultimately leads to the creation of  more jobs and higher salaries. It’s an expanding trend!

Improving technology is helping

With the advent of improving high speed internet availability, even more opportunity is continually opening up for online based local businesses, fueling a great positive economic adjustment for our area.

Strategy Content marketing West Plains

Your Presence Online is the Key to New Business

In today’s market you will not be found without a strong online presence

Your presence online, whether it is in the form of a website page, a blog post, or a YouTube video, is a representation of your business that works for you 24/7 and 365 days per year.  Every piece of online content is essentially an abbreviated sales letter which gives you the opportunity to extend a welcoming presence and inform your ideal customer of exactly how your business could benefit them.presence online

What makes them your ideal customer?  The fact that they were searching online for something specific, and it is you that they found.  Think about that for a moment.

They were actively searching for more information, and found that information in your online content.

That serves another important purpose as well. Your relevant and timely answers to the questions they had, position you as an authority in their mind.  Therefore, the more pieces of online content with relevant timely answers to questions about your business, the more your business benefits.

We specialize in content marketing, content creation, blogging services, and in getting those pieces of content to the very first pages of Google, where they are sure to be seen.

We can get them on top either through a new website or an existing one.  Either way our goal is to cause your content to be found by people searching for information about what you do. We also encourage clients to work with us to help them to learn to take complete control of their own web presence and online content programs.

Our available individualized training teaches you the essentials of handling as much of your own website content management as you choose.  After all, you know your own customers better than anyone else could.

SEO: Search Engine Optimization

We are specialists in the effective use of SEO techniques.  SEO is an acronym for search engine optimization, an important quality factor which determines your website’s effectiveness to connect those searching for your services with you.

SEO is a set of content factors and other behind the scenes factors which optimize the importance and appearance of your website in the eyes of search engines. There are numerous factors involved in search engine optimizing a website.

Exactly how SEO it is done depends upon the needs and type of business being promoted.  There is no set formula for ideal SEO.

The very first step in implementing an SEO approach is to determine what key words your ideal customer might type into a search engine.

The next most important step is to determine how many other people are also trying to get on the first page of Google for those terms. Sometimes reaching the top is easy and sometimes it is not.

There are two strains of SEO.  One strain is the obvious on-page content that is easy to evaluate because we all can see it.  The second strain of SEO is less visible.

Our SEO services begin with on-page work, and then go much deeper.  We have a strong grasp and command of the latest behind the scenes SEO techniques which go above and beyond mere on-page contents, formatting, and appearance.

Behind the scenes SEO factors are primarily driven by careful and effective management of backlinks – links to your website from websites which search engines consider significant.

Black Hat SEO Techniques and Your Business Ethics

black hat SEO

Are Black Hat SEO techniques really ethical?

It was said in eras past that God did not intend for man to fly, otherwise the Almighty would have granted wings to His creation, man.

Was it unethical, then, for the Wright Brothers, who well understood the science of physics, to design a device with theblack hat seo purpose of overcoming the influence of The Creator’s own law of gravity?

Was it a slap in God’s face that man discovered and made use of his own intelligence to overcome what was previously (and falsely) humanly perceived as an unquestionable absolute limitation –  namely, that man would never fly?

Who is Google?

Google is  a human group whose authority is sanctioned  by general human agreement. This post is not intended to be an anti-Google statement.  Google has a fine and noble purpose.

This post is merely a wake up call to those who may find themselves unintentionally marching to their beat, perhaps intimidated by the Panda updates of 2011 and/or the more recent Penguin algorithm updates.

If it is morally ethical for man to learn to mentally conquer and control the laws of physics, then what could be said about his rising above the mere human rulings invented by Google gurus?

black hat seo

Google is only a search tool and nothing more!

What is Google?

Is Google the god of the internet? Is Google not merely a group of human beings?  Google influenced public perception has advanced the belief that Google rightfully possesses some kind of ethical authority.  Google does not operate or control the internet.  It has no more rights to the internet and its control than you do!

How much less ethical is it, then, compared to inventing the airplane or going to the moon, to design influences intended to counter the intentions of mere mortal humans at Google?

Knowledge of the human “how Google does it now” drives success in SEO

SEO  ranks key words in a (primarily) Google designed search system. Consistent success in SEO depends upon knowing and understanding what the humanly designed search engine algorithms are doing now.

A handle on “How Google does it now” is the SEOs knowledge of the obstacles put in his way by the present and ever changing Google algorithms.

Google’s obstacles and hoops are in no way divine or holy.  They are simply humanly designed thought patterns to be learned and identified by the SEO, and consequently outsmarted whenever they stand in your way of advancing yourself in your quest for getting found high in search results.

Does that sound like a sin to you?

black hat seo

You own your own online authority!

Google exercises only the authority that we suppose and allow it to have!

Google possesses only humanly perceived internet authority.  They are not ethically or morally superior to you, nor must you atone for your SEO sins to the Google gods.

However, Google does make its own rules as to how it functions internally, and how it chooses to treat your online content, and it has just as much of a right to do so as you have a right to put your content online.

So, if we understand that Google is just a force with which we must learn to reckon, we are ahead of the game. If we fear its power, we subjugate our selves to it.  We can use Google either for or against our own progress.  We make that choice, but we are in no way obliged to bow to its perceived authority.  We have only to be aware of  the consequences of our actions in their presence based upon a thorough understanding of how they function.  Google’s authority is self-imposed, authorized and sanctioned only by public perception.  Google wants you to see them as the authority, but nothing obliges you to do behave in a subjugated fashion.  Take a pro-active stance!

Deal with what a search engine really does, or be subjugated to it!

Don’t be intimidated by what Google allies have dubbed “black hat techniques” I am quite sure that someone at Google coined that sinister sounding term.

black hat seo

The search engine runs FOR YOU!

Don’t let anyone convince you that what were once effective SEO backlinking techniques have been defeated by the adoption of Penguin 2.1 algorithms. The pseudo-science of SEO is still alive and well.  The rules have changed some, but the game is still on!  We are proving that day by day.

And don’t fall for the temptation to believe that you are committing some kind of an undefined sin just because you discovered a way to outsmart the Google gurus.  That’s just what they want you to believe!

Get Found Online!

Trying to Get Found Online?   Then Grow Your Presence Online !

So you’ve determined that you want to get found online but you’re not getting found in the results of the words people are searching on. There are two possible causes.

  •  Either: You don’t have any significant content online outside of your website.
  • Or:  the content you have outside of your website is of poor quality, poorly search engine optimized, or both.
get found online

Every star has its own identity. You are like one star in the internet galaxy. Claim your identity!

Let’s approach both items in order.  You need some content if you expect to be found on the basis of content.

The Blog

You blog is your content foundation.  Blog posts are content’s primary building elements.

Before you add any content to the web world outside, you will need to  attach a blog to your website.

A blog is a “web log”.  It’s just a term that refers to a collection of things you write about your work and about your business.

Every once in a while you add to this “web log”, or blog, and your blog becomes your own database of self generated written content.  Put it online!

Written Content is What Drives Search Engines

Search engines can only read words.  So, in order for your blog posts to be discovered by them, you have to put the right words in the right places for them to see.  That’s what SEO, Search Engine Optimization, is all about.

What should you write about in your blog posts?   You should write about the things that people are looking for information about in the search engines, and  that have to do with whatever you have to offer them!

Then, when they search for that information, if you have written about it and put the right words in all the right places, your posts will begin to come up on those result lists.

And where are these people when they click on your post?  They are right where you wanted them to be – on your blog, which is attached right to your website!

The Power of Video Content Marketing

Although properly placed text is what drives search engine results, the presence of online video content also plays an important role in optimizing search results.  And with that you will get found online. There are several advantages to embedding video in your blogpost and to posting it elsewhere as well.

  • Video is engaging.  In fact, people tend to watch video more than they tend to read.  And when people watch you on video, you make an important personal connection with them.
  • Video hosted on YouTube and embedded within a blog post attracts the attention of search engines, especially Google (the owner of YouTube).    Google definitely ranks blogs with embedded YouTube videos more highly than those without them.  And for good reason!  See reason number 1!
  • Your video content which you have created for embedding in your blog posts also stand on its own as content in the video hosting platform you have chosen.  When people find your video, they will also be pointed back at your website when you include a link to its related blog post. It’s a given that your first choice for video hosting is going to be YouTube.  Not only is YouTube owned by Google, it is also the second most used search engine, second only to Google itself.

It’s also beneficial to upload the video content you initially produced for YouTube to other video hosts where they can also be found in independent searches. And once again, each time your video is found, not only do people become personally connected with you, they are also pointed back to your website through the link you out there.

There are other factors relevant to getting found online that can also play an important role, such as backlink strategy. You need to develop a broad SEO strategy.  I encourage you to follow that topic via the hyperlink.

What is Your Online Presence Score?

How’s Your Online Presence?

If you have a business website, that is definitely the basic foundation of your online presence.  You want potential customers to look at your website.  You have carefully designed it to attract the business of those who see it.   You’ll get a certain but quite small amount of attention from the search engines by just being present.  But nobody wants to live on a foundation.  You need the rest of the house!

online presence

A website is only a foundation, not a complete structure.

Without doing anything, the first thing that will happen with respect to search engines when you establish a website, is a simple recognition of the name of your website.  This seems to be the point at which many newcomers to the internet stop.  This is roughly equivalent to having your name listed in the Yellow Pages.  People can find you if they know the name of your website or business.

Until you begin to give the search engines some more hints, you won’t be coming up in any other searches.  What else could you do?  You could boost your entire online presence.

What are people searching on?

Let’s say that you have a website.  You have it online and activated.   This is where the vast majority of folks are stopping. People can probably find you now, if they know your website name, but that’s about the only way they seem to be finding you.

online presence

Everyone is searching!!

What more could you do to become more seen and more often discovered?  Ask yourself what terms people are searching on to get information about whatever it is you do, or specialize in.  Make yourself a list.

Now go to Google, or Yahoo, or Bing, or whatever your favorite search engine might be.  Then search on each of the words or phrases you just listed.  Is your website coming up on that first page?  Is it coming up at all, anywhere, even on page ten?  There is good reason.

If all you have ever done is to get your website up and activated, and maybe update it with an occasional change or improvement, chances are you are not going to find your site coming up in those searches.  Give it a try.  Where do you stand?

A Digital Footprint Fact

Digital Footprint Fact:   Being Seen Drives Business!

Developing a substantial and free digital footprint does more real marketing work for you than does any form of paid advertising.  If you make a deep and recognizable enough impression with your footprint, those who are tracking you or hunting for you are going to be able to easily follow and find you.

So, in the business world, when you walk, stomp! An animal in the woods leaves as little sign of itself as possible.  It doesn’t want to be found.  Its objective is avoidance because being found might mean its certain demise.  In business, your objectives are quite the opposite of those of an animal being tracked.

In the business world, if you are NOT found, it might mean your certain demise!  You need more than anything to be followed and found.  Be sure that you leave a big and obvious footprint.

A Clearer Big Picture Explanation

I’ve looked for a  distinct  explanation of the power of spreading your presence out online but  have never seen an analytical presentation.  A lot of marketers do a lot of verbal spewing about the power of exponential growth and get the viewer excited about it, but they don’t know how to illustrate and quantify it.

So I decided to present theses ideas in a systematic block diagram format, and quantify them is a way that will make you sit up and take note.  There is great power in spreading your content out onto as many platforms as possible while at the same time consistently sharing to a number of social media.

Here’s the Long and the Short of It

That block diagram explanation ended up being best explained in the attached videos.  There is both a long and a short version.  Which one you prefer depends on how long you can bear to listen to me!  To see the long version, please sign up to view our fee video series on content marketing.  Kristen does most of those training videos, but I’ve done this one.

By the way , in the short version I said something about uploading your video to YouTube twice.  Technically that is impossible and won’t be allowed by YouTube.  Watch the long version for the explanation.

Multiple Platforms for Content – Text and Video

Once a post is published on your own blog, you also have the opportunity to make it visible on numerous additional text based media.  Why?  Because every place your content resides is yet another platform that internet searchers are searching  on, and each piece of content is building its ranking in search results  on each one of those platforms.   Not just one!  That means that if your basic piece of content ranks highly, and you have put it in seven places, you have a good chance of being in the first seven places in a search result.  Not just one!

Our focus in this article is not on text, but it is worth mentioning that the principles we are illustrating here with video postingalso have the potential of being exercised in the text content world. Article sites and white paper sites are two of many potential examples of text based media sites with which one might aim to accomplish the same goal of spreading online presence. We will make that the subject of a future post, but our emphasis here is on the power of video presence.

digital footprint

A Digital Footprint put Man on the Moon!

Every good blog post builds the basic foundation of its presence with a video embedded within the text.   We prefer having that initial video reside on one of our YouTube channels, but video also may reside on a variety of other hosting platforms besides YouTube.  Don’t forget about  alternative video hosts such as Vimeo, Daily  Motion, Metacafe, Vidmy, Videobam, and  more.

You can, and should take that very same video and upload it to several alternate video hosts.  You have at your fingertips the ability to post your blog post and its accompanying video on half a dozen or more hosts, spreading your content over a much broad audience base at no real cost other than you time.

 Social Media Sharing

Okay, now once you have put your piece of content all over the internet, what else might you do to draw attention to it?  There is an abundance of popular social media sites at which folks are looking every day.  It’s easy to come up with half a dozen of them.

What Sharing Does

A share on one of the social media is essentially a free advertising poster.  It says. “Hey take a look at this post or video!”  Because your post pr video always contains an easily recognized backlink to your site,  you are presenting to every user of that social platform an invitation, an opportunity to look at your content.  Your real and final intention from a marketing standpoint, is to get them on your website.

The Multiplicative Power of Sharing

Let’s say  that your blog post and video content now reside not just on two platforms, but eight.  Sharing each piece of content with just six social media multiples the potential for that content being viewed by at least 6×8=48 times.  I say at least, because generally any share has the potential of drawing more than just one viewer.  Let’s say each share drew 10 views.   Then the potential for your website being hit  is increased by 6x10x8=480 times.

That may not be absolutely statistically correct as I have stated it, but you get the point.  I think that the videos make this point a little clearer.

Those are just a few more digital footprint facts.  If you would like to explore more ideas, please register to view our free video training series on content marketing.  Included in that series of videos is the long version of what I glossed over in the short version above.

Registration is at the right side of this post.  You will be sent an email containing a direct link to the videos.  Happy Thanksgiving!
