Your Presence Online is the Key to New Business

In today’s market you will not be found without a strong online presence

What makes them your ideal customer?  The fact that they were searching online for something specific, and it is you that they found.  Think about that for a moment.

They were actively searching for more information, and found that information in your online content.

That serves another important purpose as well. Your relevant and timely answers to the questions they had, position you as an authority in their mind.  Therefore, the more pieces of online content with relevant timely answers to questions about your business, the more your business benefits.

We specialize in content marketing, content creation, blogging services, and in getting those pieces of content to the very first pages of Google, where they are sure to be seen.

We can get them on top either through a new website or an existing one.  Either way our goal is to cause your content to be found by people searching for information about what you do. We also encourage clients to work with us to help them to learn to take complete control of their own web presence and online content programs.

Our available individualized training teaches you the essentials of handling as much of your own website content management as you choose.  After all, you know your own customers better than anyone else could.

SEO: Search Engine Optimization

We are specialists in the effective use of SEO techniques.  SEO is an acronym for search engine optimization, an important quality factor which determines your website’s effectiveness to connect those searching for your services with you.

SEO is a set of content factors and other behind the scenes factors which optimize the importance and appearance of your website in the eyes of search engines. There are numerous factors involved in search engine optimizing a website.

Exactly how SEO it is done depends upon the needs and type of business being promoted.  There is no set formula for ideal SEO.

The very first step in implementing an SEO approach is to determine what key words your ideal customer might type into a search engine.

The next most important step is to determine how many other people are also trying to get on the first page of Google for those terms. Sometimes reaching the top is easy and sometimes it is not.

There are two strains of SEO.  One strain is the obvious on-page content that is easy to evaluate because we all can see it.  The second strain of SEO is less visible.

Our SEO services begin with on-page work, and then go much deeper.  We have a strong grasp and command of the latest behind the scenes SEO techniques which go above and beyond mere on-page contents, formatting, and appearance.

Behind the scenes SEO factors are primarily driven by careful and effective management of backlinks – links to your website from websites which search engines consider significant.

Strains of SEO: On Page SEO and Backlink SEO

On Page SEO versus Backlink SEO

The two primary strains of the “pseudo-science” of SEO are commonly known as On Page SEO and Backlink SEO.  Let’s discuss what these two terms mean in terms of improving search engine ranking.

backlink seoOn Page SEO:  Tangible and Easily Definable

On page SEO is an easily understood term because we all can see and easily understand the presence of SEO related content on a page.  It’s SEO on the page.  On page SEO refers mostly to the use and presence of keywords, pictures, and videos which most effectively cause the page to stand out and be noticed in a positive way by search engines.  If you write natural, quality content, on-page SEO is pretty easy to naturally implement, not to mention that in the proicess of writing quality content you also improve your own online image and brand authority. On-page SEO is completely “white hat” because there is nothing tricky or mysterious about it.  Though on-page  rules may change somewhat over time, basically you either implement on-page SEO, or you just don’t bother.  We won’t address here the details about the latest on what Google considers to be the most important on-page SEO factors.  The purpose of this post is primarily to introduce the complex world of backstage and behind the scenes SEO, called backlink SEO.

Backlink SEO: Less Tangible,  Complex, and Less Visible

Backlink SEO refers to the attention a website receives from search engines as a function of the type, quality, and backlink seoquantity of backlinks it receives from other websites.  Backlink SEO has nothing at all to do with the appearance or content of your website. The presence of links from other sites pointing to your website, called backlinks, are important in Google’s eyes. Backlinks carry with themselves inherent SEO clout.  Google measures that clout with a factor called page ranking (PR).  Sites which Google considers to be authoritative are assigned a high PR, while sites that seem relatively meaningless receive no PR. As a general rule. getting backlinks from high PR sites are more valuable to you.  Google crawls the net continually looking for many factors, the types and quantity and PR level of backlinks being one of those factors.  When they recognize your backlinks coming from higher PR sites, they conclude that your site must have some real value.  You get a gold star for being seen as valuable by someone important.  Thus, in general, the more backlinks you receive from authority sites, the more important you appear to Google.  In practice, the subject is more complex than this. The bottom line is that when Google concludes that you have greater online value on account of  the presence of high PR backlinks to your site, this results in a tendency for your content and your website to rank more highly in search results. That is an over simplification.  Because in the past it had been relatively easy to boost one’s own search engine ranking by owning and manipulating your own high PR backlinks, Google has taken steps to level the playing field, and make backlink SEO a little more challenging than it used to be.   They introduced some more complex algorithms that were designed to improve the quality of search engine ranking, and filter out sites which were getting ranked but got there by pure abuse of the design of Google’s system.

Panda, Penguin, and Hummingbird

backlink seoPanda, Penguin, and Hummingbird are Google code words for recent updates in the operation and effectiveness of their search engine analysis algorithms.  They were designed to get rid of low quality content.  The pure objective of Google algorithms is to give the most valuable pages the best ranking in search results.  Before the algorithm changes, one could more easily fake out the Google system by implementing some simple backlink manipulation techniques, thereby ranking some  less deserving  high in Google search results.  In pre-Panda (2011) and pre-penguin (2012) and pre Hummingbird (2013) times, backlink seo backlink SEO was not so difficult to implement as it is today.

But none  of these upgrades have  really had a significant effect upon the truly savvy SEO.   The least sophisticated backlinking schemes were addressed and reeled in with the Hummingbird update, and Google was successful in knocking out many truly low quality websites.

In the process, some undeserving and well intending websites were also backlink seodamaged by adaptation of the new Google algorithms.  However, clever and intelligent SEOs can still effectively implement more sophisticated SEO backlinking techniques Summarized in a nutshell, the latest and greatest updates to the Google machine are designed to help weed out the most abusive so-called “black hat” SEO techniques.  Through their most recent algorithm updates, Google has been successful, in eliminating the most abusive backlink schemes, some of which were truly fraudulent and abusive.

Black hat and white hat:  Bad guys and good guys?

I refer to black hat techniques as “so-called black hat” because the powers that be at Google have a powerful tendency to influence public opinion.   Google would naturally, in their own interest, promote the belief that understanding how their system really works and consequently finding ways which defeat their claimed “good guy white hat” objectives is somehow underhanded or immoral. Many SEOs fall in line and bow down to Google as their authority.  I disagree with that philosophy, and I refer you to my own analysis of the ethics of SEO techniques.

The Ethics of SEO | Challenging Google

An Editorial Opinion on the Ethics of  Black Hat and Grey Hat SEO

ethics of SEOIn answer to the question “Is it ethical to outsmart Google at their own game?”, an esteemed friend, colleague and SEO answered soundly,  “no”.

Perhaps we would be on more equal ground if I first better defined the term “black hat”. Maybe I mean “grey hat”  But the question itself contains no reference to black or grey.

So, I was inspired to say more in support of my own opposing answer to the same question.   This post is written with virtually no regard to on-page SEO rules.  I trust that Google’s new evaluation of on page quality will bring this to the attention of those who are interested in what I have to say, and of course it might be of no value at all to some.

Google’s noble motives

Anyway, I do not question Google’s noble motives to take down that which is truly of low quality. That actually needs to be done……somehow…..but how?

I’m not sure. When in that process of filtering out the scum, some number of legitimate hard working people are also impaired, is that really doing good for everyone? It’s sort of like agreeing with gun registration and thinking it is going to reduce criminal gun use (in my thought anyway).

What I call “black hat SEO” is in no way malicious or harmful to anyone.  Maybe I mean “grey hat SEO”

There are, indeed malicious schemes online which are designed to injure others.  We must all unite in opposition to malicious intent. But is ranking my high quality site well, because I have learned to understand Google’s set of randomly defined rules, injuring anyone?

Perhaps I am putting my self ahead of someone who is not willing to do the same thing.  But they may also choose to understand Google if they like, or they may choose to refrain from doing so under their own belief that they are carrying out their highest sense of  good. But is my act of responding intelligently for my own good a malicious act, resulting in damage or injury to someone? My purpose in life is to love and to injure no one.

In the same vain, is it unethical for me to be online and take advantage of the internet while a competitive business doesn’t take part in being online?  Is it then unethical because I am getting more business than he is, as a result of taking advantage of a system that was put in place for me to use? Of course, I understand you may see it differently, but I find challenging human authority to be a subject worthy of attention in today’s’ society.

Evil constantly tries to sneak its way into our lives, and it comes ALWAYS cloaked in the guise of goodness. And of course your definition of evil might be drawn across a different line in the sand than is mine. Recognition of ANY human authority before divine authority, I define as evil.

You cannot trade freedom for security

Some may say that you must give up some good in return for the gain of a greater good. I disagree and base my line of thinking on my interpretation of what was the Founding Father’s understanding of personal liberty.

Perhaps it is my libertarian philosophy shining through. I also interpret my libertarian philosophy to be based upon my full faith that there is only one legitimate authority, that He is not a human or a group of humans, and that my submission to the will of other human beings can only be a choice that I make as a fee-willed human being.

That submission might be a good thing or it might be a bad thing, depending upon the objectives of the party with whom I am agreeing. And Google is not my authority.

Along a similar line of thinking, I also disagree that I must be subject to personal search to fly on an airplane. Who granted the TSA the authority to do that? It was not God, but a group of human beings. So, I question exactly who endowed Google with the most powerful authority on  earth to make a value judgment of my or your online contents.

God, not Google, is my authority

I do not believe it is God making the decision that Google is my one and only holy online quality authority.  It is merely a group of consenting human beings making that decision, and you and I have the free will to choose not to participate in submitting to it. God is my authority.  Are ethics of divine or of human origin?

I do not recognize Google as an extension of divine authority, but as merely a group of human beings who are trying to implement their own highest conception of good. Even well meaning socialists do the same, but good human intention never equals goodness.

Black Hat SEO Techniques and Your Business Ethics

black hat SEO

Are Black Hat SEO techniques really ethical?

It was said in eras past that God did not intend for man to fly, otherwise the Almighty would have granted wings to His creation, man.

Was it unethical, then, for the Wright Brothers, who well understood the science of physics, to design a device with theblack hat seo purpose of overcoming the influence of The Creator’s own law of gravity?

Was it a slap in God’s face that man discovered and made use of his own intelligence to overcome what was previously (and falsely) humanly perceived as an unquestionable absolute limitation –  namely, that man would never fly?

Who is Google?

Google is  a human group whose authority is sanctioned  by general human agreement. This post is not intended to be an anti-Google statement.  Google has a fine and noble purpose.

This post is merely a wake up call to those who may find themselves unintentionally marching to their beat, perhaps intimidated by the Panda updates of 2011 and/or the more recent Penguin algorithm updates.

If it is morally ethical for man to learn to mentally conquer and control the laws of physics, then what could be said about his rising above the mere human rulings invented by Google gurus?

black hat seo

Google is only a search tool and nothing more!

What is Google?

Is Google the god of the internet? Is Google not merely a group of human beings?  Google influenced public perception has advanced the belief that Google rightfully possesses some kind of ethical authority.  Google does not operate or control the internet.  It has no more rights to the internet and its control than you do!

How much less ethical is it, then, compared to inventing the airplane or going to the moon, to design influences intended to counter the intentions of mere mortal humans at Google?

Knowledge of the human “how Google does it now” drives success in SEO

SEO  ranks key words in a (primarily) Google designed search system. Consistent success in SEO depends upon knowing and understanding what the humanly designed search engine algorithms are doing now.

A handle on “How Google does it now” is the SEOs knowledge of the obstacles put in his way by the present and ever changing Google algorithms.

Google’s obstacles and hoops are in no way divine or holy.  They are simply humanly designed thought patterns to be learned and identified by the SEO, and consequently outsmarted whenever they stand in your way of advancing yourself in your quest for getting found high in search results.

Does that sound like a sin to you?

black hat seo

You own your own online authority!

Google exercises only the authority that we suppose and allow it to have!

Google possesses only humanly perceived internet authority.  They are not ethically or morally superior to you, nor must you atone for your SEO sins to the Google gods.

However, Google does make its own rules as to how it functions internally, and how it chooses to treat your online content, and it has just as much of a right to do so as you have a right to put your content online.

So, if we understand that Google is just a force with which we must learn to reckon, we are ahead of the game. If we fear its power, we subjugate our selves to it.  We can use Google either for or against our own progress.  We make that choice, but we are in no way obliged to bow to its perceived authority.  We have only to be aware of  the consequences of our actions in their presence based upon a thorough understanding of how they function.  Google’s authority is self-imposed, authorized and sanctioned only by public perception.  Google wants you to see them as the authority, but nothing obliges you to do behave in a subjugated fashion.  Take a pro-active stance!

Deal with what a search engine really does, or be subjugated to it!

Don’t be intimidated by what Google allies have dubbed “black hat techniques” I am quite sure that someone at Google coined that sinister sounding term.

black hat seo

The search engine runs FOR YOU!

Don’t let anyone convince you that what were once effective SEO backlinking techniques have been defeated by the adoption of Penguin 2.1 algorithms. The pseudo-science of SEO is still alive and well.  The rules have changed some, but the game is still on!  We are proving that day by day.

And don’t fall for the temptation to believe that you are committing some kind of an undefined sin just because you discovered a way to outsmart the Google gurus.  That’s just what they want you to believe!

Internal Linking Strategy | Link Silos

Link Silos help boost SEO

link silosA couple of weeks ago I wrote a post about internal linking strategy which only skimmed the surface of the reason behind your need to adopt an internal interlinking plan in your website.  Internal linking is not only a convenient navigational tool for visitors to your site, but the Google (and other SE) bots also need some kind of guidance in order to remain interested in navigating your site whenever they come around to gather SEO analysis information.

What is a link silo?

There is neither time nor space to cover the specifics of silo design in this article, and that will be reserved for a future post.  This is just an introduction to the idea.

A link silo is a specific hyper-link directed page interconnection structure on your website.  A silo’s design is to distribute what is known in the SEO world as “link juice”.

“Link juice” is SEO influence.  It benefits your site’s recognition in search engines through external links to your site fromlink juice more powerful sites.  If your site has any intrinsic professional value,  people will begin to pay attention to it.  If they are important and authoritative people, then if they value your site enough to link to you, their link comes from what Google considers to be an authoritative site.

There are other ways of getting good backlinks from authoritative sites. What Google promotes in an ideal world is the occurrence of honest to goodness backlinks from people who truly value your site.  There are other “grey hat” methods for getting powerful backlinks to your site, which we will also cover in future posts.  For the sake of this post, it doesn’t matter where your backlink comes from.  We are only here to discuss its effects.

Google PR (Page Ranking)

Google (and the other search engines, but I say Google generically) has a system of ranking the relative effectiveness of every page, and ultimately every website that it analyzes.  That system is called PR, an acronym for “page ranking”.  A website with a high PR has a lot of clout with Google.  They consider a high-PR website to represent authority and their recognition of value.

link siloOther search engines also have some kind of ranking system  equivalent to Google’s PR,  but since Google is the primary search engine, we focus only on Google PR.

Google grants PR numbers ranging from 0 to 10, with 10 representing Google’s idea of the most important and authoritative websites.

The power of external links, aka backlinks

The concept of taking advantage of the power of back links is simple.  When someone that Google thinks is important provides an external link to your website, then the next time a Google-bot sees that link, it gives you a Gold Star!  Google figures that you must be pretty special and important if somebody with more recognized online authority than you have is providing your website as their reference.

What kind of backlinks do you need?

It should seem pretty obvious that you need backlinks from other sites that have more PR than you do. Those kinds of links are going to provide link juice to pages in your site that need it.

link siloWhich pages in your website need link juice?

Every page can benefit from the influence of a backlink. You need to do some key word analysis in order to decide which of your pages need the most help getting recognized in searches.  On the basis of your analysis you can decide which pages need the most empowering.

In short, broad general key words get the most searches.

Likewise, the more concisely and narrowly defined is a key word, the fewer searches it gets.

Therefore it is much easier to get a page ranked high in search results on narrow and specific key words.  And it is more difficult to get a page ranked high in search results for a broad and general key word.  Not only are there less people searching for that specific key word, but you also face less competition to rank highly for a more specialized key word.

What does applying link juice to a page do to its search ranking?

A page that has received a shot of stimulation by link juice via a backlink is going to start ranking higher in search results than one which has not.

Again, broad key-word-based pages need more link juice than do pages based on narrowly defines key words.

But they all benefit from link juice.

Here is where link silos come into playlink silo

Every page can, and should benefit from getting juiced by an external link.  That’s why we need to design an appropriate internal linking system.  We want to be sure the link juice is effectively put to work in helping you to benefit EVERY post and page on your site.

A high PR backlink needs to be directed at some high level page on your site (your home page for example).  You can then design a linking interconnection which distributes the link juice first to the pages written around the most competitive key words, which need it them the most, and ending with the pages written around the most specific key words, which need it link juice the least.  That is a link silo. The next post will cover a specific case study designed to show you exactly how to design a link silo in your website that will maximize the boost your website will receive.  See you there!

Profitable Affiliate Advertising Websites

Profitable Affiliate Advertising Websites

affiliate advertising websites

Why not get your slice of the pie?

If you have any website that already gets a significant amount of traffic, or that has the potential of becoming a very high traffic website, then placing appropriate affiliate ads on it is absolutely the easiest way there is to make money online.

There is no cost to put up an affiliate ad.  All you need to do is sign up with a company that has an affiliate advertising program and place one of their ads, usually already prepared for you, on your site.  If the right products are advertised on the right site, you have a winning combination.

First, what is affiliate advertising and how does it work?

Affiliate advertisers are “pay-by-commission” advertisers.  When you put their affiliate ad on your site, each time someone clicks on that affiliate ad residing on your site and makes a purchase, you earn a sales commission from them. Most affiliate commissions range from 5% to 10%.

Many major merchandise sellers offer online affiliate programs, and it costs you nothing at all to place their affiliate ad

affiliate advertising website

People sell their products everywhere.

on your website.  Then, whenever someone makes a purchase through your ad, you make a few bucks, even while you’re sleeping.

If they would happen buy through someone else’s ad, that someone else makes those few bucks instead of you.  If you are trying to make money online, the choice seems simple:

  1. Either make the effort to make yourself available to earn a few bucks, or
  2. Don’t make yourself available, and just let someone else make the commission.

I prefer option 1. Don’t you?  And, the more online presence you have, the more likely does it become that affiliate purchases are going to take place on one of your websites.

And nobody loses!  The affiliate company is always happy to make a few more sales that might never d have taken place without the presence of your ad.

Don’t I have to know how to build a website to use affiliate advertising?

If you want be able to completely manage and control your income, the answer to that question is ideally, “yes”.  But you don’t have to go that route.  You could also hire a good SEO to build an affiliate advertising site for you, for a price.  Or you might consider purchasing an already successful site.  There are a few places you could go to buy operable websites.  I would recommend starting with something like  flippa.com if that is the route you want to take.

affiliate advertising websiote

Build a strong presence!

But keep in mind that building websites is easier and far less intimidating than many would have you believe – especially those who put websites together for a living and do little or no SEO work.  SEOs do much more than just build websites, and good ones are up to the challenge of helping you to turn any new and profitable idea into a money making reality.

You need a good high traffic website featuring a well defined subject.

If you want to do this yourself,  start by choosing some topic that you are interested in, or might be interested, in that gets a whopping amount of searches.  Google Keyword Planner is the newest Google tool for key word research.  Most of us don’t really like the new Keyword Planner, as it is really oriented towards ease of use for customers purchasing Google Adwords pay-per-click advertisements, making it a less useful tool for some other keyword research tasks.

How to proceed:  Watch my video

The video embedded in this post goes through a step by step procedure of how to use Google Keyword Planner together with Go Daddy to find yourself a great and effective domain name for your planned affiliate site.  Your new domain name needs to be a highly searched phrase associated with your topic of interest, which does not already face a lot of well constructed competing websites coming up at the top of Google.

On the video I go through all the procedures we followed to create one of our own developing affiliate sites, called breakingbadcast.org.  If you are a fan of the Breaking Bad television series, this is my chance to plug that site and I hope you will enjoy what we have put together so far.

I hope that this post has stimulated your mind.  Consider  the endless possibilities there are for creating profitable affiliate websites that are also fun and entertaining for people to engage with! And don’t miss our free video training series!

Happy Blogging in 2014!

Good Linking Strategy Drives Traffic

What does linking strategy have to do with traffic?

linking strategy

Keep the traffic flowing!

Before you start messing with designing a linking strategy within your website and/or blog, it’s best to first have a handle on the general guidelines of good SEO practice.  That means that each time you create a new post, you should already be in the habit of including the key word in the title, URL, and meta description, and be following a few other basic SEO rules.

It also helps to use an SEO quality checker each time you post.   We work in WordPress, and for SEO checking that we use a plug-in called SEO by Yoast, but that’s not our subject here.

If you’re at least that far along in getting a blog rolling, this post may help you.

Linking strategy and the power of backlinks

My purpose in this post is to introduce the concept of linking strategy to those striving to increase their traffic, and who  already practice good SEO habits in their content creation.   Various SEOs seem to have different experiences and therefore different recommendations about linking strategies.

Perhaps nobody except the algorithm writing gurus at Google understand how the search engines really look at and treat backlinks. Therefore I’m not going to make any recommendations about how to design a backlink plan that works.  I’m only going to introduce the idea and then advise you to think about it.

Outbound links and backlinks

Don’t stop reading now because you don’t know the difference yet.  It’s easy.  Outbound links refer to links you put in your site directing people to otherlinking strategy sites.  Backlinks is a term that refers to any link which points back to your site.  One is outbound, the other is inbound.

What does a backlink do for you?

A backlink links to your site from somewhere outside of your site.  Search engines maintain a continually changing database of every webpage’s level of importance.  That level of importance is called its PR, or page ranking, and is on a scale of zero to 9.   The higher is your PR, the more likely is that page to rank highly in searches.

Search engines raise your PR when more highly recognized authority sites, those with higher PR, link to yours.  Of course, there are other vital factors.  The most important other vital factor is that the site that provides a backlink to you only contributes to raising your PR if it is a site that is related to the same subject as yours.

So the bottom line about backlinks is this:  Your site gains significance when search engines see that sites of higher relevance than yours are linking to you.

linking strategyThe Concept of Link Juice

When sites of higher PR than yours link to you, you gain power from them.  In SEO jargon that power is called “link juice”.   As your site is empowered by more and more link juice, the pages that are getting juiced from them get higher search engine rankings.  That’s an over simplification, for now.

What does an outbound link do for you?

There are differing opinions in answer to that question.  Again, only the Google gurus know what they are doing this week.

One school of thought says that outbound links to important sites are good for you, and that Google wants to see them.  I cannot pretend to know whether that statement is true, partially true, conditionally true, or false, but I think it falls somewhere in the middle.  Sometimes outbound links are really helpful in terms of providing significant content for the reader, and it makes sense that Google would recognize that as a factor to rank by.

Another school of thought says that outbound links only serve to bleed vital link juice off of your site and back out into the web world.   Few also can verify the truth of that statement.  We have been experimenting with the line of thought that says it can do us no harm at all to remove any outbound links that add no real quality to the content of the post.

Can external link juice be amplified within your own site?

linking strategy

Amplify the juice!

In short, yes, and that is the subject of another post on the concept of link “silos” and internal links.  You can boost the importance of posts on your blog which need the most boosting using external juice from a high PR site,  and then spread that juice within your site by passing it on to boost your other pages or posts that don’t need quite as much help.  We’ll address silos and their effects on PR in a coming post.

Tracking Search Patterns on Key Words

Tracking search patterns and analyzing them

To be able to gauge your progress in traffic driving potential to your website, you need to create a method of tracking search patterns.  In order to decide where you’re going next, you need a record of the key words you have used in a list associated with their search success rates.

This is a basic and elementary summary of how you need to track search patterns in order  to optimize the search results you’re shooting for.

Where should I be?

Is your blog post coming up in the top three slots of Google and/or You Tube?  That’s your objective.  If it’s not, you have work to do.  Checking the ranking of each of your key words on a regular basis provides you a basis from which to decide what to do with that key word or the post or video associated with it.

Potential difficulties are revealed by analyzing search patterns

For instance, if you are not showing up in the first 5 pages of results for a given key word, is your key word phrase too broad and general?  Short key word phrases are very competitive.  You might consider making the key word phrase just a little more specific by adding a word or two, just to decrease the competition.

tracking search patterns

Search, and ye shall find!

Here’s a for instance on refinement:  I wrote a blog post made a video about SEO strategy a while back.  It wasn’t ranking at all, that is, I didn’t find it in the first 5 pages of results.  I use the 5 page rule.  If I don’t find something of mine within the first 5 pages of search results, I have to change something significant.

So I looked at what I had written, and decided that what I had really written about was an SEO strategy template.  And in fact, if I used SEO strategy template as a key word, I would be attracting an audience closer  to the theme of the post anyway.  After rewording the post and the accompanying video description, boom!  There I was at number 1 in Google and Number four in Google.

Tracking the success of your key words becomes increasingly important and meaningful as the number of posts and subjects on your blog begins to increase.

Naturally there are  factors other than key word phrase refinement which have to do with your ranking results, some of them being much more complex.  Suffice it to say that unless you are tracking  search patterns, you have no information by which to measure your success or failure.

No sophistication needed

Unless you are tracking a blog of extraordinary size, the information in an ordinary spreadsheet is easiest for most of us to comprehend.   I like Google

tracking search patterns

No sophistication needed!

Spreadsheet mostly because of the online storage and instant save features.  Because we access it through Google Drive, we can make changes and updates to it independently without needing to consult with each other.

In the embedded video I outline a very crude and simple way of tracking search patterns using Google Spreadsheet.   There I speak to this task from the perspective of tracking blog posts and videos on the two primary search engines, Google and YouTube.  Take a look and let me know what you think.

Get Found Online!

Trying to Get Found Online?   Then Grow Your Presence Online !

So you’ve determined that you want to get found online but you’re not getting found in the results of the words people are searching on. There are two possible causes.

  •  Either: You don’t have any significant content online outside of your website.
  • Or:  the content you have outside of your website is of poor quality, poorly search engine optimized, or both.
get found online

Every star has its own identity. You are like one star in the internet galaxy. Claim your identity!

Let’s approach both items in order.  You need some content if you expect to be found on the basis of content.

The Blog

You blog is your content foundation.  Blog posts are content’s primary building elements.

Before you add any content to the web world outside, you will need to  attach a blog to your website.

A blog is a “web log”.  It’s just a term that refers to a collection of things you write about your work and about your business.

Every once in a while you add to this “web log”, or blog, and your blog becomes your own database of self generated written content.  Put it online!

Written Content is What Drives Search Engines

Search engines can only read words.  So, in order for your blog posts to be discovered by them, you have to put the right words in the right places for them to see.  That’s what SEO, Search Engine Optimization, is all about.

What should you write about in your blog posts?   You should write about the things that people are looking for information about in the search engines, and  that have to do with whatever you have to offer them!

Then, when they search for that information, if you have written about it and put the right words in all the right places, your posts will begin to come up on those result lists.

And where are these people when they click on your post?  They are right where you wanted them to be – on your blog, which is attached right to your website!

The Power of Video Content Marketing

Although properly placed text is what drives search engine results, the presence of online video content also plays an important role in optimizing search results.  And with that you will get found online. There are several advantages to embedding video in your blogpost and to posting it elsewhere as well.

  • Video is engaging.  In fact, people tend to watch video more than they tend to read.  And when people watch you on video, you make an important personal connection with them.
  • Video hosted on YouTube and embedded within a blog post attracts the attention of search engines, especially Google (the owner of YouTube).    Google definitely ranks blogs with embedded YouTube videos more highly than those without them.  And for good reason!  See reason number 1!
  • Your video content which you have created for embedding in your blog posts also stand on its own as content in the video hosting platform you have chosen.  When people find your video, they will also be pointed back at your website when you include a link to its related blog post. It’s a given that your first choice for video hosting is going to be YouTube.  Not only is YouTube owned by Google, it is also the second most used search engine, second only to Google itself.

It’s also beneficial to upload the video content you initially produced for YouTube to other video hosts where they can also be found in independent searches. And once again, each time your video is found, not only do people become personally connected with you, they are also pointed back to your website through the link you out there.

There are other factors relevant to getting found online that can also play an important role, such as backlink strategy. You need to develop a broad SEO strategy.  I encourage you to follow that topic via the hyperlink.
