Brand Yourself with The Power of Podcast

How the power of podcast can better define you online

We only recently found the time to add the power of podcast and real time audio broadcasting to our growing arsenal of online promotional methods and servicesAnd we’re having fun with it!

The internet is free, dummy!

The greatest thing about many types of internet promotion is that they are free!  There are countless free platforms where you can share your written content, personalized video and audio content for all to see and hear, on demand, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

power of podcastVideo vs. Audio Platforms

Video is a necessity, but the power of audio needs to be taken just as seriously. In our personal experience we found it a little more difficult to get used to being on camera than getting accustomed to just being on a microphone.  For me, there was more intimidation to the thought that thousands of people might be watching me in person than might be just listening to me.  But it didn’t take more than a couple of weeks worth of making videos to get over that.power of podcast However, I do still feel that my demeanor on video comes off as less than fully comfortable than in does in audio.

Real Time and On Demand Audio!

Audio podcast service providers such as Blog Talk Radio offer real time (live) broadcasting.  After the show has aired, the host service provides us (and the public) with an online podcast link to the show. Each show is then available, for all time, to be listened to on demand by anyone who finds it, the world over.  The podcast resides forever with the host service, Blog Talk Radio, as one searchable piece of content in the same manner as each of our YouTube videos is also a searchable piece of content. In a way I’m glad that none of my YouTube videos were ever broadcast live.  Sometimes on an off day we have to do several takes before a video comes off with a comfortable feeling.  On the plus side, the repetition is also good for me in terms of burning a permanent retrievable record in my mind.

We’re having more fun here than a barrel of monkeys!

It’s fun, and it shows!

Live audio makes possible and encourages audience participation.  Because we’re doing both shows as a team, our shows come across as  an extension of our own personal ranting that goes on in our office all day long!  We have a great time working together, and that shows in our on-air tone.

Strengthen your brand with the power of podcast

Don’t mess with this lady!

Besides the thrill of the thought of people actually listening to us, our podcast presence really does a lot more.  Because of the internet, there’s a whole new culture developing in the world of broadcasting.  In the past, only the elite or the connected had access to being heard by the world.  With the internet, the only factor that restricts your own self promotion is the time and effort you are willing and able to put into developing your presence there.

Fathom the potential power!

The world needs to grasp the power of distributing personal and business content across the net.  The limitations of time and space have been literally lifted by the internet!  Do you think that’s an exaggeration?  It’s not! You can now actually be seen and heard in more than one place at the same time.  Anyone can!  All you have to do is to make your image or your voice available for all  to be seen or heard.  And it’s free!  Isn’t that incredible?

The vast economic potential of content marketing

Imagine the economic potential behind the inescapable and coming discovery that the internet literally defies some aspects of the laws of physics!  This discovery is literally a key to escape from economic recession. power of podcastWe can all certainly imagine the difference that would result in our own business if we just stopped wasting our time marketing to people who have no interest in what we have to offer. What is the world were to discover this great fact?  They will – it is inevitable.  Shouldn’t you get on the bandwagon now?

Be Ubiquitous!  Spread your presence!

The foundation of being seen online rests first on your website associated blog, and second in its embedded video and audio content  which  lives out there in the internet world as independently searchable and findable content. Each piece represents you, points to you and your website, while performing the parallel function of speaking for you, in your voice the world over 24/7.

Management of Social Media Sharing Illustrated

The Effectiveness of Social Media Sharing

social media sharing

ER, I mean TWEET!

Everybody is talking about the importance of social media sharing.  Let’s make clear just what social media sharing really does, and talk about why it’s a vital component of every content marketing strategy.  A prerequisite to to understand the function and importance of backlinks.

What are Backlinks?

A backlink is any link which an internet searcher is likely to find within your piece of content which directs him/her back to your website. As your blog grows post by post, you are creating an ever growing and interconnected mountain of references, each of which exist as a separate piece of content, and each of which contains a separate backlink pointing to your website.  The more, the better! social media sharingYour pieces of searchable content include your written blog posts with videos and pictures embedded in them.   Each post is a separate piece of content.  Because your embedded videos also stand alone on YouTube and possible on other video hosts, they also exist as independent pieces of searchable content.  You might also be using podcasts related to each post, as we recently have begun to implement. So, you might have the potential of having an entire handful of stand-alone pieces of content associated with each single written blog post.  In our case we publish from 4 to 6 pieces of content online for every post we write on our main blog. To search engines, each one of those pieces of content is a separate and searchable item.  Each item exists for the primary purpose of providing a backlink to the internet searcher who finds them, thus pointing them to your website.  The whole reason for creating this huge number of separated items is to increase the probability that someone is going to be directed to your website.

I’m not quite ready to talk about social media yet…just keep reading!

Before we get to social media, there is a point to be made about backlinks. I’m going to use our own situation at STRATEGY Content Marketing as an example.  We usually publish at least two videos associated with each written blog post.  Sometimes we publish that associated video content on hosts other than YouTube, so we sometimes have as many as 6 pieces of video content per blog post, and recently we began to add podcasts associated with each blog post. So, if we were publicize ourselves at maximum capacity that would mean that 7 pieces of separate and searchable content would exist in support of each blog post.  Let’s say that in an average year, I expect to publish 300 pieces of content on my blog.  That’s a reasonable number for anyone serious about implementing a content marketing program. 300 blog posts translates to 300 + (700×3)=2400 pieces of independent searchable content residing out there on the internet waiting to be found, each one with a backlink to our site.

OK. Now let’s talk about social media

With 2400pieces of content waiting to be found in search engines, what could we do to boost interest in getting them viewed, besides just waiting on them to found by search engines? We could wave them in front of people! That’s what social media sharing is all about.  This is best illustrated in the video found in this post.  I have chosen to eventually share each and every piece of content with 15 independent social media platforms.

Let’s do the simple mathsocial media sharing

This example is hypothetical and for illustration.  But if you watch the video and start looking at all the x’s marked in the sharing boxes, it sinks in even more  how effective it is to share your content on social media.  Each social media share represents multiple opportunities for someone to look at one of my pieces of content, each one of which which is designed to get them to look at my website. 100 blog posts with videos and podcasts translates to 2400 pieces of content. Sharing each of 2400 pieces of content to 15 different social media platforms results in 15×2400=36,000 invitations to look at my content.

What happens if I don’t share?

There are two consequences: 1. If I don’t share, I turn down 36,000 free invitations to look at my content.  How many views will I get per invitation?  That depends upon a lot of factors.  It could be anywhere from zero to hundreds, depending on the content itself and where it was shared.  Whatever that number might be, multiply it by 36,000.  That’s how many visits to my website I would be turning down if I failed to share my content. 2. Each share is noticed by the major search engines (keep thinking Google).  Google judges your material to be more relevant when it is recommended by social media shares.  By failing to share I would also be turning down 36,000 opportunities to make my content rank higher in search results.  Would you really be effectively promoting your business?

Video Authority – Personal and Powerful

Your Video Authority Brands You

video authority

AUTHORI – TAY!!

No factor could be more vital to the growth of your online presence and to the building of your brand than is your video authority.  Most of the emphasis on video authority is placed, for good reason, on YouTube.  But there’s a lot more out there.  Don’t miss out on some easy publicity!

Now You CAN Be Everywhere
– at the Same Time!

Let’s talk briefly about the untapped power of the internet before getting into the meat of this post. By appearing on video, you are making a powerful personal connection with your potential clients.  This is your opportunity to actually put yourself personally in front of them without the need for your physical presence.  And, the more platforms you are seen on, the more opportunity there is for people to be listening and watching you personally, all over, and at the same time! Isn’t this what people have always wished for?  To be in more than one place, personally, at the same time?  And the internet delivers it!  Think of the power behind that!

Parallel and Competitive Video Hosts

Choose from Multiple Hosts!

We recently began to share video content on some other relatively popular video hosting platforms because we want to be seen all over.  Though none of the parallel and competing video hosts will ever stand a chance of driving as much traffic as does YouTube, there are several that are worthy of consideration.  We did some traffic research and chose to go with what appear to be the top five video hosts.  The numbers are truly significant.

YouTube Rules!  Why Bother with Anyone Else?

My late Dad loved to use this old proverb whenever us kids were being picky about things that we had received free:  “Never look a gift horse in the mouth.” In other words, when things are handed to you, don’t be concerned with how inferior they may be.  Focus instead on what advantage you can take of the fact that they were handed to you free of charge, and be grateful for it.  Let’s look at some of the major alternative video hosting services and talk about what you could be missing by not using them.

By the Way, You Don’t Have to Create Extra Video Content

You don’t have to record multiple sets of video content covering the same material (but it never hurts if you do).  You can upload the very same video content to various hosts.

video authoroty

Don’t worry, it’s safe to do more than you have to online!

When you use similar but differing titles and descriptions for each upload, you also boost your own find-ability by spreading the base of key words which could result in your video being found and viewed.

After you shoot a new video, take a few minutes extra to do that.  And take a few minutes to develop a spreadsheet to manage and track what you have uploaded. We can help you with that.  It’s in my plan to include a free training video on that subject, but at the time of this writing I haven’t got around to recording it yet.

The Top Five for Video Authority

Here are the top five alternative video hosts that we have chosen to use.  We chose them on the basis of usage statistics.  You might want to decide on different ones, but these all appear to get the most traffic, beginning with YouTube.

You Tube Statistics Summarized

First of all here is why you must be using YouTube.  These statistics came directly from YouTube.

  • More than 1 billion unique users visit YouTube each month
  • 1.2 billion total views per day
  • Second most used search engine in the world, right behind Google.
  • Over 6 billion hours of video are watched each month on YouTube—that’s almost an hour for every person on Earth, and 50% more than last year
  • 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute
  • Millions of subscriptions happen each day. The number of people subscribing daily is up more than 3x since last year, and the number of daily subscriptions is up more than 4x since last year

Four Other Major Video Hosts Summarized

There are plenty of other players out there, but we have chosen these four to complement our YouTube video presence.

  1. You Tube: 1.2 billion views per day
  2. Daily Motion:  60 million views per day
  3. Metacafe: 17 million views per day
  4. MyVideo: 7 million views per day
  5. Vimeo: 1 million views per day

I tend to prefer Vimeo and Daily Motion purely on the basis of ease of use.  If your videos are correctly SEO prepared (i.e. so that they are really searchable and findable) then you will be seen. Those numbers are views, not searches.  Just imagine how many searches must have taken place before they turned into views!  It’s not that difficult to put your videos in the que to be found.  It takes only the plan and the initiative to carry it out.
